Classic Bruschetta

Classic Bruschetta is so easy to make and takes no time at all! The fresh tomato basil topping rests on slices of garlicky buttery toasted bread and is drizzled with a balsamic glaze. This dish originated in Italy in the 15th-century and can possibly be traced back to ancient Rome. Bruschetta is a great appetizer or even a side dish. I made Tortellini Pasta Salad for a brunch with some friends and included this dish. It was a big hit! Any pasta meal pairs well with bruschetta, especially if you want something bright to contrast a richer entree.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 5 fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • balsamic glaze, garnish
  • 12 slices of French bread
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter

How to Make Classic Bruschetta

  1. First, chop the tomato, red onion, and fresh basil leaves and place in a medium bowl.
  2. Pour the olive oil over the fresh ingredients and add the salt.
  3. Mix together well and refrigerate while you toast the bread.
  4. Take the French bread and cut it into 12 slices about 1 inch each in thickness.
  5. Melt the butter and stir in your minced garlic.
  6. Brush both sides of the bread with the butter and garlic mixture.
  7. Place in the oven at 350 degrees until both sides are a golden color. You should flip the slices at least once so both sides toast evenly.
  8. Put a heavy spoonful of the tomato topping onto each slice and drizzle with balsamic glaze. Enjoy!
